Paula is one of the most wonderful examples of how a teacher can impact the lives of a community. Paula has been with APS for 29 years (!) and has taught every subject at the primary level. She began her career student teaching at BRP then teaching there and transferring to NPS when her daughter started PreK. She has been a second grade teacher at NPS ever since and us currently teaching ELA and Social Living. She holds a Bachelor's in Elementary Education (1-8). She holds a Mentor Teacher Certificate from NIET and has worked with numerous student at AHS through the APS Ed Rising program in addition to mentoring student teachers from Nicholls, LSU, LRCE, and Reach University. Although Assumption Parish isn't where she was born and raised, it has become home. In Paula's words, "I feel strongly about helping build our schools in our community so I've only worked in Assumption Parish. There is more to teaching a child than simply presenting lessons through a given curriculum. It is helping them grow into the person they're called to be. Besides seeing the excitement of learning in their eyes and hearing the innocence in their laughs, my greatest joy that comes from teaching in a small community is being able to teach entire families. Years ago, I considered teaching siblings teaching entire families; however, my perception has changed. It's an amazing feeling to be able to say that I've taught siblings and parents of my students. That's one of the greatest joys of teaching in Assumption Parish."
